U.N. spokesman in Sarajevo Alexander Ivanko said that the
situation in Grbavica, which is to be handed over to the authority
of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina on March 19, could be
described as tense. There were only several Bosnian Serb policemen
in Grbavica, who were not leaving their police station at all,
Ivanko said.
The international police force has deployed 80 unarmed
monitors in Grbavica. Little more that 300 Italian IFOR soldiers
were controlling the area as well.
The number of robberies and cases of intimidation of local
Serbs who decided to remain in Ilidza has decreased, Ivanko said,
adding though that the majority of Serbs who decided to remain in
Ilidza are now planning to leave.
International police forces have sent a request to the
Federation's Interior Ministry, demanding that three federal
policemen be moved from Ilidza due to unprofessional behaviour.
There were reports that many refugees from Srebrenica and Zepa
were trying to move into abandoned houses and flats in Ilidza,
Ivanko said.
