The Bosnian Serbs cut all contacts with IFOR after the arrest
of two high-ranking officers of the Bosnian Serb army. the officers
were arrested on the territory of the Federation of Bosnia-
Herzegovina three weeks ago.
The commander of Sector South-West General Michael Jackson
yesterday reached agreement with the Banja Luka local military
commanders on the opening of Banja Luka airport for IFOR. The
airport should be opened next week. Deputy chief commander of the
Bosnian Serb army, General Zdravko Tolimir today asked to meet with
IFOR ground force commander General Michael Walker. After the
meeting, which would take place today, IFOR would decide whether to
propose to the Security Council to lift sanctions imposed on the
Serb entity in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brigadier Cummings said.
In the last 24 hours, the number of NATO patrols in Sarajevo
suburbs has increased so that the tensions present there could be
completely removed. Admiral Smith today met with the president of
the Bosnian Serb parliament in Pale, Momcilo Krajisnik and visited
with him Sarajevo suburbs which should be handed over to the
Federation authority.
According to information from the IFOR headquarters, the fire
which yesterday broke out in the area of Rajlovac, one of Sarajevo
suburbs, destroyed a large part of the UNHCR warehouse located
there.
