President Tudjman decorated Ambassador Pensa with "Order of
Prince Branimir" as a sign of the appreciation of Ambassador
Pensa's efforts in the development of friendly relations between
Italy and Croatia.
The two high officials expressed satisfaction with highly
developed economic and trade relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Pensa said he had put great efforts into the
development of cooperation between Italian banks and Croatia. His
efforts had been rewarded with the arrival of the Italian bank
'Casa di risparmio di Trieste' in Croatia, Pensa added.
Thanking the Italian ambassador for the understanding he
showed for the overall political and economic circumstances in
Croatia, President Tudjman expressed hope that the already good
relations between Croatia and Italy would continue to develop at
the political level and that the two countries would continue to
cooperate in the development of humanistic and democratic values in
the new international order in the region. Like Italy, Croatia was
a central-European, Mediterranean country, Tudjman stressed.
The two high officials also discussed the current political
questions relating to the implementation of the peace agreement as
well as the current political and economic situation in Italy.
Today's meeting between the Croatian president and the
outgoing Italian ambassador was also attended by Tudjman's Chief-
Of-Staff Ivo Sanader, advisor on foreign policy Zeljko Matic and
the head of Tudjman's cabinet, Gordan Radin.
