ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - Croatian President's chief-of-staff on Wednesday handed a decoration to the longtime director of the Italian Institute in Zagreb, the President's Office said in a statement.

The President's chief-of-staff, Ivo Sanader, handed to the
Institute's Grytzko Mascioni a decoration of Croatian Morning Star
with the image of Marko Marulic, the statement said, adding that
Mascioni was decorated by Croatian President Franjo Tudjman for
"special merits in the field of culture."
Congratulating to Mascioni, Sanader underscored his
contribution to the development of Croatian-Italian relations and
to bringing the two nations closer to each other.
Mascioni said he was honored and pledged he would, in spite of
leaving Croatia, continue to work for the benefit of relations
between Croatia and Italy, their peoples and their respective
minorities in both countries, the statement said.
