ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - "It is necessary to look back at what we have done so far in order to establish our current position and to be able to show to Croatia's external and internal enemies what the political situation in Croatia is
like in the psychological and political war that is being waged against it", the HDZ President Franjo Tudjman said, starting his speech entitled 'HDZ's Role in Establishment of State and in Homeland War' at the First session of the HDZ Central Committee which started in Zagreb today.
ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - "It is necessary to look back at what we
have done so far in order to establish our current position and to
be able to show to Croatia's external and internal enemies what the
political situation in Croatia is like in the psychological and
political war that is being waged against it", the HDZ President
Franjo Tudjman said, starting his speech entitled 'HDZ's Role in
Establishment of State and in Homeland War' at the First session of
the HDZ Central Committee which started in Zagreb today. #L#
In the time of its establishment, the HDZ had been described
as 'a party of dangerous intentions' and several scenarios had been
made up to prove it, Tudjman said.
The first scenario was aimed at preventing the registration
and establishment of the HDZ; the second was the one about the
"Herzegovinian lobby", which was allegedly reigning Croatia and
leading it into destruction; the third scenario was the one on
mistakes done by the HDZ political leadership in its policy towards
Bosnia-Herzegovina. After all those scenarios failed, the fourth
one was devised. According to that scenario, the whole of the HDZ
and Croatia were involved in criminal doings, Tudjman said.
He recalled the establishment of the HDZ, its contribution in
the creation of the Croatian state and in the Homeland War, as well
as the international and internal circumstances in times of
Croatia's struggle for international recognition.
"Political and military victories were won with HDZ's policy
and through the reconciliation of Croats living in Croatia and the
Croatian diaspora. In this way we established the independent
Croatian state", Tudjman said.
He recalled the importance of the referendum for Croatia's
independence that took place in May 1991, in which 83% of the
Croatian population took part. Out of those 83%, 93% voted for the
independent Croatia, Tudjman said.
According to today's polls, 81% of the Croatian people would
vote again for the HDZ President and the Croatian state. That
proved that the situation was the same as it had been five years
ago, he added.
Speaking about the HDZ in times of the Serbian aggression on
Croatia, Tudjman said: 'We have overcome all difficulties, we
bought weapons secretly, we managed to establish the Croatian army
and we organised elections twice, although there was no need to do
it - so that we could prove that we are for a democratic and not
some totalitarian state'.
It was almost a year since Croatia had been offered and
pressured with Z-4 plan, he said.
"It was a weight that was to be added to Croatia's
independence and sovereignty", Tudjman said, adding that another
weight was the situation in Istria.
"All this has been overcome on the basis of our own
estimations and trust in the Croatian people. On the basis of
international circumstances we made decisions as regards the
military actions 'Maslenica', 'Flash', 'Summer' and 'Storm'. We
have became a regional power, but despite all those achievements,
some would like to see Croatia heading in some other direction
contrary to wishes of the majority of Croatian people', Tudjman
said.
