At the beginning of the talks, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of
State informed President Tudjman about the talks he had held in
Sarajevo and Belgrade in the past two days on the further
implementation of the Dayton peace agreement and especially about
the arrest of war criminals and cooperation with The Hague
Tribunal.
The high officials also discussed the establishment of the
Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and stressed their joint support
for the Federation as the only guarantee of a lasting solution to
the Bosnian crisis, which is in the interest of not only the Croat
and Muslim peoples but of the international community as well.
As regards the organisation of the City of Mostar, President
Tudjman said it was one of the most important issues, but not the
only problem that was worth facing with in the establishment of the
Federation. Tudjman reiterated Croatia's stance that it was
necessary to revise the decision of the EU Administrator of Mostar
Hans Koschnik, so that a just solution, guaranteeing the equality
of the Croat and Bosniac peoples, could be found.
It was also very important for the speedy establishment of the
Federation to adopt its cantonal system and name its government,
President Tudjman added.
The talks stressed the wish for cooperation between Croatia
and the European Union in the process of the implementation of the
peace agreements as well as the support for the solution of all
disputable questions through regular consultations and respect for
interests of all sides.
Today's talks between Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and
the U.S. state delegation were also attended by Croatian Vice
Premier and Foreign Minister, Mate Granic, the head of the

Cervenko, Tudjman's advisor on foreign policy Zeljko Matic, the
head of the Croatian Intelligence Service, Miroslav Tudjman, the
