U.S. FIRMLY SUPPORTS EASTERN SLAVONIA PEACE AGREEMENT - GELBARD

ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - The United States firmly and fully supports the implementation of the agreement on the peaceful reintegration of Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem into Croatia, US Assistant Secretary of State Robert Gelbard said in Zagreb on Thursday. Gelbard, who is in charge of organizing international police forces in the Croatian Danubian area and Bosnia-Herzegovina, had visited the Danubian area, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, where he met for talks with Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. Gelbard said he had received firm assurances from the Serbian and Croatian governments that they would support the full implementation of the agreement on the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area into the administrative system of the Republic of Croatia. The US official on Saturday visited the southern Bosnian town of Mostar where he stressed the need that both Croat and Moslem mayors sign an agreement on a joint police force as soon as possible.
