took effect on January 5 this year. #L#
According to the amended Law on Arms, all citizens who own
weapons which are prohibited by the law, have to hand them over to
the police within a year's time. The banned weapons include all
types of automatic rifles and guns, machineguns, mines and
explosive devices and the like.
Legal persons are to hand over these weapons within six months
time.
No legal charges will be pressed against those persons who
hand over their weapons to the police within the already mentioned
deadline.
What is more, they will receive compensation for the weapons,
which will be same as the market price of the weapon.
The intention of the legislative bodies was to put all arms,
especially lethal and dangerous ones, under police control and
prevent killing and wounding of citizens by those arms, the
statement said.
