WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Hina) - The U.N. Security Council was to vote
on two resolutions on Croatia on Monday. #L#
The first draft focuses on new operation in the eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem region -- known as UNTAES --
aimed to reintegrate the area into Croatia. The paper stipulates
5,000-strong force to implement the mandate.
The second resolution proposes that U.N. military observers
continue overseeing demilitarization of the Prevlaka peninsula for
another three months, with possible extension to three months more
after the Secretary General's report.
The number of observers would rise to 28, according to the
draft resolution. It also envisages that some other international
organization might take over the task once the U.N. expires.
Both resolutions reiterate Croatia's sovereignty and
territorial integrity and stress the importance of the mutual
recognition of all states to emerge in the area of former
Yugoslavia, within their international borders.
