VUKOVAR, Nov 17 (Hina) - A Croatian government delegation headed by
Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa will present the book "Vukovar - A
Challenge of Reconstruction" in Vukovar on Tuesday to mark the
beginning of the postwar reconstruction of this eastern Croatian
town.
The visit was announced by the chairwoman of the national committee
in charge of restoring inter-ethnic trust, Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, in
Vukovar on Monday after a closed-door session of members of the
committee and representatives of the local Serb community.
"It will be an important event for Vukovar," Skare-Ozbolt told
reporters.
Delegations of the Vukovar county and municipal governments and of
the Joint Council of Serb-dominated municipalities will separately
lay wreaths at town cemeteries on Tuesday.
"There will be no other commemorations," Skare-Ozbolt said.
Skare-Ozbolt described recent incidents in Vukovar as "individual
incidents", saying that before the end of the UNTAES mandate the
Transitional Police Force would step up its presence in Vukovar and
the entire Croatian Danube region.
"Most of the inhabitants of the Croatian Danube region do not want
such incidents," she said, adding that they had most probably been
committed by those who did not plan to live there. "The end of the
UNTAES mandate will also mean the end of such incidents."
