CRO GOVT REPRESENTATIVES VISIT VUKOVAR HOSPITAL ( Editorial: --> 1128 )

( Editorial: --> 1128 ) VUKOVAR, 15 Nov (Hina) - The Croatian Science and Technology Minister Ivica Kostovic, Health Minister Andrija Hebrang and Minister Juraj Njavro on Saturday visited Vukovar hospital, where they held talks with the head of the hospital, Vesna Bosanac, hospital employees and representatives of the U.N. Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES). The Government representatives also visited the new town cemetery, where they laid wreaths and lit candles in memory of killed Vukovar residents. Following the talks in Vukovar hospital, Health Minister Hebrang announced that the hospital would be completely reconstructed. The Government has accepted a plan on financing the reconstruction which should start in spring, last some three years and cost from 30 to 35 million German marks, Hebrang said. Thirty-two displaced doctors have returned to their jobs in eastern Slavonia, Hebrang said, adding that some 50 apartments, 25 of them in hotels, have been secured for returnees - medical workers. The health system in the Croatian Danube river region is fully reintegrated and there is no reason why the Security Council report on that segment of reintegration should not be favourable, Science and Technology Minister Ivica Kostovic said. Croatia has been trying to get the documentation of Vukovar hospital from 1991, so that the identification of killed persons could be accelerated, but the efforts were to no avail, Kostovic said. However, there is parallel documentation which will help in the process of identification, Kostovic said, without giving more details as to what kind of documentation it is. The meeting in Vukovar hospital was also attended by the head of the UNTAES civil affairs sector, Gerard Fischer. It has been agreed at the meeting that all residents of the region should get the right to health insurance, that the deadline for examination of vocational ability would be extended from six to 12 months and that the Health Ministry should pay the costs of validation of diplomas by public notaries.
