ZAGREB, Oct 10 (Hina) - Professor Vita Klaic, director of the
Alliance Francaise school in Zagreb, was on Friday given an award by
French Ambassador Jean Jacques Gaillarde, on behalf of French
President Jacques Chirac, for special merit in the promotion of
cultural relations between Croatia and France and her work in French
language teaching.
Handing her the award, Gaillarde stressed that Klaic had been
awarded for her committed work of many years at the French language
school, displaying her love towards France.
The "Ordre National du Merite" was established in 1963 and is
awarded to foreign citizens under the same conditions as the Legion
of Honour, for 20 years of particular public work, or 25 years of
exceptionally successful professional work.
About 500 persons all over the world have been bestowed with
this award, and Klaic is the first person given the award in the
independent Croatia.
