UN SECURITY COUNCIL'S PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT IS SUPPORT TO PEACEFUL RE

PEACEFUL RE $ INTEGRATION - RADIC ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - Croatian Reconstruction and Development Minister Jure Radic said Friday that he saw the Presidential Statement by the UN Security Council as support to the complete reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area into Croatia's legal and constitutional system. We consider mobilisation warnings in the UN security Council's Presidential Statement forwarded to the Croatian government and all structures of local authority, whether Croats or Serbs, as welcome, Radic said. He called on those initiating such statements to provide material assistance for the reconstruction of the Danubian area. The Presidential Statement warned the Croatian government to do more on the reintegration and reconstruction of the Danubian area, Radic said, adding that the Croatian government would continue to exert maximal efforts to that extent because Croatia's goal was to return to the area, so the Croatian government could regain control in the Danube river region before 15 January. Speaking about the acceleration of return to the area, considering the fact that more people had returned from the area to other parts of Croatia that to the region, Radic said that written confirmation about the plan of return would arrive at the addresses of 1,300 to 1,400 families whose houses had been reconstructed or undamaged by Tuesday. Based on the authorisation, returnees, now accommodated in Osijek and Vinkovci, would be able to receive passes with which they would be able to enter freely into the UN-administered area, and, with the help of the Reconstruction Ministry, reconstruct their homes. Radic added that the Office for Refugees and Displaced Persons had already issued around 1,500 certificates for the return, for reasons of family reunions, so about 5,000 Croats would return to the UNTAES-controlled area, just as many as there were Serbs who had returned to their homes in other parts of Croatia. "In the upcoming period, we will help those Serbs who have submitted requests to return to their homes from the Danubian area, in order to realise the two-way return wherever possible," Radic said. He said that of all local self-government units established after local elections in the area under the UN Transitional Administration, only one municipality (Tenja) had not adopted a statute, which was why the municipality did not have a drawing account. "All other local self-government units not only have a drawing account, but we have remitted budgetary funds via counties, and we will remit whatever they need to function during the following days," Radic said.
