Separovic told reporters after the separate meetings he
hoped that a declaration on the establishment of a justice system
in the Croatian Danubian area would be signed this month, and
that an exact date of the start of work of Croatian judiciary
bodies would be set.
Separovic said he had informed Walker about the draft law
on the legal review of illegal authorities during the occupation
of the Croatian Danubian area.
He said the talks had focused on the national
representation of employees in the justice system in the area,
and added that he advocated representation according to the 1991
census.
The next meeting is to take place in Zagreb next week, he
announced.
Asked about lists of war crimes suspects, Separovic said
such lists did not exist, adding that all legally convicted
persons would have the right to ask for a repeat trial.
Speaking about the meeting which had focused on the work of
the local self-government, Seks said more money was needed from
the state budget for the local authorities in the Danubian area,
especially in Vukovar, to perform their duties more effectively.
He added that the safety situation was not an obstacle to
the return of displaced persons, which he called on to return.
He expressed support for the Croatian Radio - Vukovar to
move to Vukovar from its temporary location in Vinkovci.
Skare Ozbolt announced about 20,000 displaced persons would
return to the Croatian Danubian area, including villages of the
Srijem and Baranja triangles, as well as those included in the
pilot project of return.
She added that the UNTAES had announced that people from
other parts of Cr9oatia would uninterruptedly enter the Croatian
Danubian area from 15 September, the deadline for all vehicles in
the area to acquire Croatian license plates.
Asked to comment on the suggestion of UNTAES that 12
November be celebrated as the day of inter-ethnic reconciliation,
Skare-Ozbolt said the Croatian leadership had nothing against
this day being celebrated as not only reconciliation day, but
also the day of return, and that it marked the end of the UNTAES
mandate.
