Slavonia William Walker expressed optimism concerning the
completion of peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube
river region.
I am very optimistic. There is great hope for eastern
Slavonia and Croatia. If we all work together, everything will be
fine, Walker told reporters in Ilok. #L#
During his first interview since the take-over of the
office of the head of the U.N.Transitional Administration in
Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) Walker said that he was getting
acquainted with the situation. He announced a meeting with
President Tudjman, which is to take place on Wednesday, adding he
was talking with as many people as possible in order to gain an
insight into the situation.
Asked about the process of two-way return, Walker said that
it was too soon to comment it.
Asked when the persons suspected of war crimes at Ovcara
near Vukovar, Walker said he would do all he can in line with his
mandate to help arrest the suspects.
There would be no personnel changes in the UNTAES mission
leadership, Walker said.
