JUDGES FROM CRO DANUBE REGION SWEAR IN

ZAGREB, Aug 28 (Hina) - Newly appointed county and municipal judges and magistrates from the Danube region of eastern Croatia were sworn in before the president of the State Panel of Judges, Ante Potrebica, in Zagreb on Thursday. Sworn in were two judges of the Vukovar County Court, one judge of the Beli Manastir and six judges of the Vukovar municipal courts, one state attorney and his two deputies in the Vukovar state attorney's office, one deputy municipal state attorney in Beli Manastir and one in Vukovar, and two magistrates in Beli Manastir. Today's appointments continued the reintegration of the Danube region's judiciary into Croatia's new, independent administration of justice, Potrebica told a meeting attended by high representatives of the legislative, executive and judiciary power. Croatia continued to confirm its determination to throughout its territory create conditions for international cooperation in the realization and promotion of the respect of human rights and basic freedoms, excluding any discrimination, said Potrebica. "The basic and most important practical reflection of such determination is realized through the activity of the State Panel of Judges, which guarantees the independence of the judiciary power", he added. Speaking to the newly appointed judges and officials, Potrebica told them they would be expected to abide by the constitution and Croatian laws in performing their duty, and to ensure fair trials in the Danube region.
