MOSTAR, Sept 1 (Hina) - The World Bank granted a loan of DM 800,000 for
the reconstruction of Mostar.
Mostar Mayor Ivan Prskalo and Deputy Mayor Safet Orucevic held a
meeting in Mostar on Monday with the head of Westendorp's regional office,
Martin Garrod. The talks focused on the organisation of elections in the
town.
Prskalo said that the World Bank donation would be invested into the
reconstruction of the water supply, traffic and energy supply systems in the
town.
He added that the World Bank had thus lifted a certain 'financial
blockade' of Mostar.
The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) could not accept the present
rules for the Mostar elections under which the central town district would
become the seventh Mostar's municipality, which was in opposition to the
Dayton Agreement on the organisation of Mostar as a town with six zones,
Prskalo said.
Orucevic said the objection of the Mostar HDZ had no foundation as
the HDZ and Social Democratic Action (SDA) had reached an agreement on
the central town zone. He added that in the central zone, only aldermen for
the Town Council were elected, not for the Municipal Council.
