SARAJEVO, Aug 16 (Hina) - Senior officials of the Serb Democratic
Party (SDS), which is still under the direct control of Bosnian Serb
war-time leader and war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, called on
Bosnian Serb president Biljana Plavsic on Saturday to accept a
constitutional court ruling that her decision to dissolve parliament
was unconstitutional, or to resign.
In a statement carried by Serb-run radio in Pale, southeast of
Sarajevo, the Serb member of Bosnia-Herzegovina's collective
presidency, Momcilo Krajisnik, said that Plavsic would end up in
self-isolation unless she accepted the constitutional court
decision.
The radio quoted Aleksa Buha, acting president of the SDS, as
saying that if Plavsic continued to insist on the holding of
parliamentary elections in October she should resign so that
elections for a new president of the Serb entity could be held.
Buha said that the international community, regardless of the
constitutional court ruling, would continue to insist on new
parliamentary elections, thus supporting Plavsic.
The international community "is getting closer to a line the
crossing of which would mean direct introduction of a protectorate,"
Buha said.
"In that case, Biljana Plavsic should return her presidential
mandate to the SDS because she was nominated by that party. Only
after that can we hold new elections," he added.
Deputy High Representative Gerd Wagner told a news conference
in Sarajevo on Saturday that international organisations in Bosnia-
Herzegovina had nothing to add to a statement released Friday night,
which described the decision by the Bosnian Serb constitutional
court as political and contrary to the Constitution.
The statement said that there was no reason for not holding
parliamentary elections in the Serb entity in October as announced.
