Van der Stoel was interested in preparations for and possibilities
of the work of Croatian police forces, which are to perform police
duties in the Danube river region after the expiry of the mandate of the
U.N. Transitional Administration (UNTAES) in the region.
The OSCE representative also wanted to know more about the
education of Croatian police officers, particularly when it comes to
prevention of incidents in the region, the statement said.
Gledec stressed that Croatian police officers would protect and
implement the Constitution and Croatian laws in the same way they were
performing their duties in other parts of Croatia.
The Croatian police were well-trained and capable of carrying out
all their duties, Gledec said.
