The purpose of the discussion is to present the status of the Gypsy
community in Croatia and point out the problems Croatian Gypsies face
today, said Mirjana Radakovic of the Group for Direct Protection of
Human Rights.
One of the aims of the discussion is to establish more efficient
ties between Gypsy associations in Croatia, so that their status could
be improved, she added.
The first topic at today's session was 'Education and Culture of
Gypsies'. Representatives of the Gypsy community pointed out the
unfavourable situation of education of Gypsies and neglect of Gypsy
culture in Croatia.
Representatives of the Croatian authorities agreed that the
situation was difficult, adding they were ready to provide financial and
other forms of assistance in devising efficient educational and cultural
programs for Gypsies.
