MOSTAR, July 28 (Hina) - The Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Assembly issued a statement Monday harshly protesting because of, as the statement said, finger- pointing at Bosnian Croat officials for their failure to attend a meeting with
John Shattuck during his visit to Mostar, at which they had not been invited, although it had been previously agreed that such meetings be organised exclusively in the presence of both the Bosniac and Croat sides, the Bosnian Croat news agency, Habena, said on Monday.

Deputy Canton Prefect Pero Markovic, Prime Minister Mijo Brajkovic, and
president of the Canton Assembly, Ivan Bender, held talks about the visit of +
the aide to
the US Secretary for human rights, John Shattuck, to Mostar and his meeting +
with only
representatives if the Bosniac-Moslem side.
The statement signed by Bender continued, "Regarding the visit of John
Shattuck to Mostar on Sunday, 27 July, as well as the already held meeting with
Bosniac officials of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, we learnt from the press, +
which
said that Croat officials were not present at the meeting, and that the reason +
for their
failure to come had not been officially announced".
The statement concluded by stressing that the canton had a special status, so
no decisions on the level of the canton could not be reached without the +
consent of
both sides.
