MOSTAR, July 23 (Hina) - Gerd Wagner, a deputy to the top international
peace administrator in Bosnia-Herzegovina, held separate talks with
Moslem (Bosniak) and Croat officials in the southern town of Mostar on
Wednesday. Wagner and officials of the town and Herzegovina-Neretva
Canton discussed implementation of the Dayton peace accords in the area
and the establishment of the joint police in Mostar.
As he assumed the office of a deputy to the High Representative,
Wagner toured Mostar for the first time. He visited the police station
in the Mostar administration centre as well.
After the talks he said he had told his interlocutors that the
Dayton agreement must be implemented.
He added that he was glad about many good news from Mostar such as
the set-up of the police.
Commenting on the uniting of the Croat-controlled municipalities in
Mostar, Wagner said municipalities could unite certain services but
could not do more than that.
The canton head, Fatima Leho, said she had notified Wagner of the
need for adopting regulations and laws in connection with the canton
judiciary in order to complete the legal system in the area.
The canton premier, Mijo Brajkovic, explained at the meeting with
Wagner that the uniting of municipalities was in line with the official
paper issued by the European Union in Mostar.
