ZAGREB, July 4 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Friday
received Finland's first ambassador based in Croatia, Elisabeth
Tigerstedt-Taehtelae, who handed him credentials.
Finland's Ambassador to Croatia informed President Tudjman that the
Finnish Government decided to establish an Embassy in Croatia as of 15
May 1997, at which Croatia's President expressed great pleasure.
Tudjman recalled that there were many similarities between Croatia
and Finland, even though they were at opposite ends of Europe,
especially in their battle for independence and the upkeep of
sovereignty, in the past and in the present.
Present at today's meeting were also the Croatian President's chief
of staff, Hrvoje Sarinic, Croatia's Foreign Minister Mate Granic, and
the Croatian President's advisor for foreign affairs, Zeljko Matic.
