ZAGREB, June 30 (Hina) - A university course in Croatian language
and culture to be attended by 28 foreign students began in Zagreb
on Monday with the students' visit to the Zagreb University
Rectorate, where they were received by representatives of the
course's organizer and coorganizer, the Zagreb University and the
Croatian Emigrants Society.
Lectures during this, the sixth course, will take place at
the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy until 26 July.
Welcoming the students from Austria, Italy, France,
Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Argentina, Australia and the
United States, the rector of the Zagreb University, Marijan
Sunjic, wished them to acquire knowledge and make friends, and to
discover Croatia as a country worth staying in.
The university course in Croatian language and literature
was not attended by children of Croatian emigrants alone, but by
many who for professional reasons wanted to learn Croatian, said
the head of the Croatian Emigrants Society, Ante Beljo, pointing
out these were people who through trade, diplomacy and tourism
came into contact with Croatia.
According to the head of the course, Zrinka Babic, most
students could speak some Croatian, but they would submit to an
exam so that their fluency could be assessed and a study method
determined.
