ZAGREB, July 4 (Hina) - The first anniversary of the Croatian Army
verification centre was marked ceremonially on Friday at the "King
Tomislav" military barracks in Zagreb.
The verification centre, where about 30 experts are employed, is in
charge of implementation of arms control treaties which Croatia has
signed.
The main task of the centre in the past year was to implement a
subregional arms control agreement, the head of the centre, Staff
Brigadier Vinko Stefanek, said.
This referred to the military part of the Dayton peace accords,
and out of all signatories - Croatia, FR Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina
(Croat-Moslem) Bosnian Federation and the Bosnian Serb entity - it was
only Croatia that had met its commitments completely, he added.
In the future the centre would also devote more efforts to
implementing a 1994 Vienna document on building peace and confidence in
Europe, and to cooperating with verification centres of European
countries and the United States, the Croatian Brigadier announced.
On behalf of the Defence Ministry and Army's headquarters, the
headquarters deputy chief-of staff, Rear-Admiral Davor Domazet,
congratulated the centre for the anniversary.
