MOSTAR, June 14 (Hina) - The establishment of the South and South-East
Municipal Councils in Mostar on Saturday marked the end of the process
of organization of Mostar with six municipalities as agreed in Dayton
and in line with June 1996 election results.
The town's mayor, Ivan Prskalo, today expressed satisfaction with
the end of the establishment of Mostar's municipal councils. All will be
done in the near future to make the municipalities work and get ready
for the September municipal election in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he said.
Prskalo confirmed the Croat side continues to advocate the joining
of the three municipalities with Croat majority, in line with the Dayton
peace accord and Provision 54 of Mostar's transitional statute.
In these, the heads and presidents of the municipal councils are
Croats, while their deputies are Bosniaks (Muslims), whereas in the
three municipalities where Bosniaks are in the majority, the heads and
presidents of the municipal councils are Bosniaks.
Until a statute is passed, Mostar's six municipalities will, in
line with an inter-party agreement between the Croatian Democratic Union
Party and the Muslim-led Party of Democratic Action, act according to
provisions of the town's transitional statute.
