VUKOVAR/ILOK, June 24 (Hina) - The Croatian President's deputy chief-of-
staff, Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, and Croatian Justice Minister Miroslav
Separovic on Tuesday visited the UN-administered Croatian Danube region.
In Vukovar they held talks with UN's deputy transitional
administrator for the Croatian Danube region Souren Seraydarian, which
focused on the reintegration of the judiciary.
In Ilok they held talks on the establishment of legal authority in
the Croatian Danube region and the two-way return of displaced persons
with the town's mayor, Stipan Kraljevic, the manager of the Agency for
the Purchase of Certain Real Estate, Ivica Vrkic, and the president of
the Serb Democratic Independent Party and parliament representative
Vojislav Stanimirovic.
Skare-Ozbolt assessed the visit to Croatia's UN-administered area
as "extraordinarily useful".
It was important that persons elected for local bodies of authority
live and work every day in the towns/villages where they were elected,
she told reporters in Ilok, because others would return after them.
She also announced that the UNTAES military component would soon
hand over the check-points along former separation lines to the UNTAES
task police force.
The reintegration of the judiciary "will be completed with the
election of judges in Croatian Danube region courts", said Justice
Minister Separovic and announced the establishment of a municipal and
magistrate's court in Ilok.
In answer to a journalist's question, Separovic said that "there
has been no particular talk on the list of war crimes suspects". "In
relation to this, I just recalled the decision of the Croatian President
and of the National Defense and Security Council that the Amnesty Act
will be implemented consistently", he added.
Separovic also said that some 40 enterprises from the Croatian
Danube region had been registered at the Osijek Trade Court.
Serb representative Stanimirovic said that the establishment of
legal bodies of authority in the Croatian Danube region and the two-way
return of displaced persons must be stepped up. This return must be
organized and supervised by the Croatian Government, in order to avoid
incidents, he added.
