TENJA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL ESTABLISHED

TENJA, June 30 (Hina) - The founding session of the Municipal Council of Tenja, eastern Croatia under UN administration, was held on Monday after two unsuccessful attempts. According to a decision of UN transitional administrator for the region, Jacques Klein, Tenja got the status of a "transitional municipality" and should return under the city of Osijek, where it is one of several municipal office branches, within one year. The Tenja Municipal Council consists of 12 members of the Serb Democratic Independent Party (SDSS), three members of the Croatian Democratic Union Party (HDZ), and one member of the Croatian Pure Party of Right (HCSP). Djuro Podunavac of the SDSS was elected president of the council, while Ivan Vukoja of the HCSP was elected his deputy. Pero Rajkovic of the SDSS was elected head of the municipality, while Tomo Povreslo of the HDZ was elected his deputy. Deputy Prefect of the Osijek-Baranja County Mirko Blagojevic wished the councillors success in their work, and also for the Tenja municipality to be included in the life course of the county and Croatia. At the beginning of the session, the Croatian national anthem was intoned and the flags of Croatia and the Serb national minority were displayed. After the municipal head was elected and the Serb side proposed the Serb traditional song "Boze pravde" (God of Justice) be played as well, the Croatian councillors left the session. With today's constitutive session in Tenja, the process of constituting local self administration bodies, in line with the April municipal election, in the Osijek-Baranja County was completed.
