ANOTHER FIVE ITEMS ADDED TO AGENDA OF LOWER HOUSE'S SESSION

ZAGREB, June 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of Representatives concluded a discussion on a final bill on the protection against natural disaster, on Tuesday morning. The parliamentary agriculture and rural issues committee supported the adoption of the bill on the protection against natural disaster, said Ivica Gazi, on behalf of the committee. The committee submitted two amendments to the text of the bill requesting that the Parliament, rather than the Government, appoint an eleven-member state commission for assessment of damage caused by disaster. The head and six members of the commission should be chosen from MPs, whereas the finance ministry, agriculture and forestry ministry, the Croatian chamber of commerce and the biggest insurance company, each should have their representative in the commission as well. The legislation committee proposed 29 amendments to this bill, Vice Vukojevic said. On Tuesday also, the agenda of the 20th session of the lower houses was enlarged by another five items. One of those items, which is in the urgent procedure, is a bill on amendments to the law on Croatian President's election. The lower house unanimously adopted a proposal of Janko Bobetko of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) that a discussion on a report on the enforcement of the Homeland War veterans and their families rights law should be postponed for next session. Bobetko described the law as very complex and sensitive and added that there was not enough time to study the relevant material and give marks. A bill on amendments to the law on financing local self-government and government, proposed by Zlatko Kramaric of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), was not included into the agenda by a majority of votes.
