OSIJEK, June 6 (Hina) - The Education and Culture Office of the UN-
administered Osijek-Baranja County, eastern Croatia, on Friday forwarded
work contracts to education employees in its area, to be signed in the
next ten days.
According to office head Ksenija Zbozil, out of 692 persons
currently employed in elementary and high schools in the Osijek-Baranja
County area, 620 were offered temporary or permanent contracts. Seventy-
two persons were not offered contracts, she added, specifying that these
were employees with part-time associate status, pre-school employees
under local self-government, and employees who started work after 30
September 1996 and are not included in the earlier undertaken
commitments by the Croatian Government.
Work contracts were offered to 185 out of 218 high school
employees, Zbozil said, adding that the rest did not qualify for
teaching.
There would be one high and 15 elementary school in the Osijek-
Baranja county, Zbozil said. Most schools had been neglected last year,
she added, while school equipment disappeared. It would require a lot of
effort to ensure optimal conditions for the pupils' and teachers' work,
Zbozil concluded.
