SARAJEVO/BANJA LUKA, Dec 2 (Hina) - The chairman of the Presidency
of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Zivko Radisic, said that the apprehension
of Bosnian Serb general Radislav Krstic, indicted by the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)
for war crimes, could jeopardise the peace process in the country.
Radisic said in Banja Luka on Thursday that the arrest by
Stabilisation Force (SFOR) troops "could jeopardise the results of
the overall process of democratisation, reinstatement of
confidence and tolerance," the Bosnian Serb news agency ONASA
reported.
He said it was about time for SFOR to return within the framework of
its mandate as set by the Dayton Agreement, Radisic said and
expressed expectations that the international community would not
undertake such actions in the future.
Republika Srpska army general Radislav Krstic, apprehended near
Bijeljina on Wednesday, was transported by helicopter from a SFOR
base in Tuzla to The Netherlands and is on his way to the ICTY
detention unit in The Hague, ICTY said.
Krstic is the highest ranking Bosnian Serb official to find himself
under the jurisdiction of the Tribunal under a war crimes
indictment.
In the indictment confirmed on Wednesday and which was sealed until
the moment of his arrest, Krstic is charged with genocide against
Bosniaks (Moslems) in the Srebrenica enclave.
Alongside Ratko Mladic, Krstic was one of the commanders of Serb
troops who killed and exiled thousands of Bosniaks from the area in
June 1995, the indictment states.
