WASHINGTON D.C., Dec 1 (Hina) - The United Nations General Assembly
on Monday adopted a resolution on the situation in Bosnia-
Herzegovina (BH), suggested by 22 countries, including Croatia.
The resolution confirmed the territorial integrity, independence,
sovereignty, and legal continuity of BH within its internationally
recognised borders, as well as equal rights for all three of its
constituent nations (Croats, Serbs, and Bosniak Muslims).
The General Assembly stressed that the implementation of the peace
agreement for BH was stalling, particularly in three areas - return
of refugees, economic revival, and cooperation with the
International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY)
in The Hague.
The Assembly also expressed deep concern with the fact that the
Federal Republic Yugoslavia kept refusing to arrest and hand over
persons indicted by the ICTY.
Commenting on the resolution, the Croatian Ambassador to the UN,
Ivan Simonovic, on Monday told Croatian Television that the parts
of the resolution favourable for Croatia referred to the care for
Bosnian Croats, and the succession to the former Yugoslav
federation.
With the resolution, the UN is pressuring the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia, which is blocking an agreement on succession. This
suits all other successor states which want to bring the succession
process to an end.
