ZAGREB, Nov 11 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister Ivo
Sanader on Wednesday acquainted rapporteurs of the Council of
Europe Parliamentary Assembly's committee monitoring compliance
with undertaken obligations with the implementation of a Croatian
government refugee and displaced person return programme.
To expedite the return of Serb, Croat, Hungarian, as well as other
refugees, and to further stabilise the country, it is very
important to reconstruct war-ravaged areas, said Sanader.
He pointed out the importance of an upcoming international donors'
conference on the reconstruction and development of Croatia.
With regard to the situation in the media, Sanader informed the
Council of Europe rapporteurs that a law on Croatian Radio
Television had been adopted, and pointed out that Croatia continued
to be open for dialogue on all issues.
The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasised Croatia's integration with
Europe and America was a strategic goal of Croatia's foreign
policy. He said however that in that regard Croatia faced numerous
obstacles, party unjustified.
The achievement of political goals, which were the European Union's
(EU) conditions to regulate international conditions, should be
evaluated more appropriately, he said.
Croatia cannot be satisfied with the as yet unestablished
institutionalised relations with the EU, the PHARE programme and
cooperation agreement in particular, but welcomes the EU Council of
Ministers' decision to continue pursuing open dialogue with
Croatia.
Further progress in the Croatian society democratisation process
and approaching European standards is primarily Croatia's
interest, Sanader said, adding the process would proceed even
without pressure and further conditioning.
Croatia is however also interested in having achieved results
evaluated, he added, in order not to become hostage to the
neighbouring region where the stabilisation of political
circumstances is yet to begin.
Sanader welcomed the efforts the Council of Europe and the EU were
making to make this part of Europe become part of integration
processes, with the aim to create a new European political and
security structure which will warrant peace, security, and
cooperation to all states and peoples of Europe.
