CRO UPPER HOUSE PRESIDENT ADDRESSES CEI CONFERENCE IN GRAZ

GRAZ, Oct 24 (Hina) - Austrian parliament president Heinz Fischer on Saturday opened the second conference of Central European Initiative (CEI) parliamentary presidents in Graz. At the conference, an address was also made by the president of the Croatian Sabor's House of Counties, Katica Ivanisevic, who spoke about instruments of parliamentary supervision and their efficacy. "The Constitution of every country, Croatia included, is the supreme legal act and foundation of every legislation," said Ivanisevic, adding that on December 22, 1990, the Croatian Sabor passed a Constitution which is "the expression of the will and the confirmation of the national sovereignty of the Croatian people." Ivanisevic also outlined the main directives of the Croatian Constitution and organisation of the Sabor, with special emphasis on their supervisory jurisdiction. The second CEI parliamentary presidents conference focuses on security in the region and the implementation of a charter on fighting organised international crime, adopted in Trieste, Italy, last year. Croatian Sabor president Vlatko Pavletic will speak about the issue of refugees and displaced persons with regard to security in the region. (hina) ha
