SPLIT, Sept 28 (Hina) - An international conference entitled "19th
Century Croatian Literature in the European Context" started in the
southern Croatian port of Split on Monday.
The conference is part of "Book of Mediterranean '98", a
manifestation which started on September 23 and closes on October
1.
The conference was organised by the Department for Comparative
Literature of Zagreb's Faculty of Philosophy, the Split's
Literally Circle and the University Library, and the Croatian
Academy for Arts and Sciences' Institute for Scientific and
Artistic Work from Split.
Over two days, experts from the Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary,
Germany, Italy, and Croatia will discuss the influence of European
literatures on Croatian literature, and its echo abroad during the
past century.
The conference is one of a series of symposiums discussing the same
topic, according to centuries and literary periods, said project
manager professor of literature Mirko Tomasovic from Zagreb.
Our intention is to investigate not only the influence of the
European literature on Croatian literature, but also the other way
around, the projection of Croatian literature on European culture,
Tomasovic stressed.
