RIJEKA, Sept 24 (Hina) - The president of the Rome-based "Dante
Alighieri" society, Bruno Bottai, on Thursday visited Rijeka,
where he met county and city officials.
The "Dante Alighieri" society was established in 1889 with the aim
of promoting the Italian language and culture throughout the
world.
Bottai said the purpose of his visit was to support the work of the
society's branch in Rijeka.
The society has branches in several other Croatian coastal towns.
Croatia has succeeded in establishing its independence and
confirming its identity, Bottai said, adding that Croatia's
efforts should now be directed towards joining international
associations.
Croatia will have considerable support from Italy in its efforts,
he added.
Today's meeting in Rijeka was also attended by the Italian General
Consul in Rijeka, Mario Musella, and the president of the Italian
Union executive committee, Maurizio Tremul.
