ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - Former British prime minister Baroness
Margaret Thatcher left Zagreb on Saturday afternoon and thus ended
her five-day visit to Croatia, during which she was welcomed by
high-ranking state officials and local residents in Zagreb,
Vukovar, Ilok and Dubrovnik.
During the visit President Franjo Tudjman awarded Baroness
Thatcher the Grand Order of King Dmitar Zvonimir, the highest
Croatian state decoration for foreign citizens.
She was awarded the decoration as an expression of gratitude for her
promotion of friendly relations between the United Kingdom and
Croatia, and her expression of support for the establishment of
Croatia's independence.
Baroness Thatcher also held talks with various state and church
officials, and was declared an honorary citizen of the City of
Zagreb and awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of
Zagreb.
