DUBROVNIK, Aug 6 (Hina) - Two people were killed in a fire which
broke out on the Peljesac peninsula (southern Croatia) on Wednesday
night, Dubrovnik County police said in a statement Thursday
morning.
The fire broke out on St Elias hill and helped by a strong wind
spread to the village of Viganj, consuming about 20 houses and
killing two people.
It spread further to the villages of Loviste and Kuciste.
The local residents and tourists have been evacuated from Viganj to
Orebic and the island of Korcula.
The efforts of professional and volunteer fire brigades and local
residents, who are trying to contain the fire, are hampered by a
strong wind.
