VUKOVAR, July 4 (Hina) - Fifty-one persons exhumed from a mass grave
in Vukovar and Ovcara (eastern Croatia) were given proper burials
at Vukovar's New Cemetery on Saturday.
Chairwoman of the National Establishment committee Vesna Skare-
Ozbolt spoke on behalf of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.
The victims of Vukovar will always remind us of the tragedy that
happened in Vukovar and Europe's indecisiveness to prevent it,
Skare-Ozbolt said.
"We must build the future of Croatia on truth and justice, without
ignoring the past because we learn from it. Nobody in Croatia wants
revenge nor advocates collective guilt. The criminals have names
and surnames and must be made responsible for their crimes," she
said.
Military Ordinary Josip Jezerinac, Vice-Premier Ljerka Mintas-
Hodak, Defence Minister's envoy Branimir Glavas, Aide to the
Interior Minister Josko Moric and the Vukovar-Srijem County
prefect Rudolf Koenig also spoke at the funeral.
During the past ten weeks, 502 exhumed persons have been buried at
the New Cemetery, out of which 211 were members of the Croatian
army, 53 civil defence members and 233 civilians, while 35 persons
were buried in other locations.
They were all victims of Serb aggression.
