EXHUMATION OF ANOTHER MASS GRAVE STARTS IN VUKOVAR

( Editorial: --> 4463 ) VUKOVAR, June 29 (Hina) - The exhumation of about 70 bodies from a mass grave near the Vukovar city stadium started on Monday. The bodies were buried near the city stadium by a public sanitation company during the fiercest Serbian attacks on Vukovar, while the city was still under Croat control. According to chief pathologist Drinko Balicevic, there are about 67 bodies in the grave. One body was exhumed by 1pm today and another nine bodies should be exhumed by the end of the day. The exhumation and identification of victims should be completed this week. The victims' clothes have tears similar to the ones which usually occur after people have been shot at and we suppose that these people were killed, Balicevic said. The public sanitation company "Komunalac" from Vukovar buried 218 bodies in three layers due to a shortage of burial places. After the town fell into the hands of the former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and Serb paramilitaries, the Serb forces exhumed victims from the first two layers and transferred them to a mass grave at the Vukovar New Cemetery. The exhumation of these and other victims from the mass grave at the New Cemetery was completed last Friday by the Government Commission for Missing Persons and Imprisoned.
