PRISTINA, June 16 (Hina) - Almost 100,000 Albanians have had to
leave their homes in Kosovo on account of attacks by Serbian forces,
while more than 15,000 have left the south Yugoslav province,
Kosovo Albanian sources reported Tuesday.
Serbian forces continued attacking villages in the province on
Tuesday, especially in the Srbica Municipality, near Drenica.
The pro-government Mediacentar reported that strong groups of
armed Albanians in the Drenica area attacked the police station in
the village of Rudnike at 10pm Monday.
Albanian sources say the situation is the worst in the Decane
Municipality, near the Albanian border, where large-scale battles
are taking place.
The same sources say that Serbian forces yesterday launched a
helicopter attack on Junike, the largest village in the Decane
Municipality, when at least 365 Albanians fled to Albania.
The Serbian sources are also continuing with attacks on border
villages in the Djakovica Municipality, Albanian sources
emphasised.
In Kosovska Mitrovica Serbian police stopped some 100 people from
Kragujevac who, fearing for the safety of their sons who are
draftees in Kosovo, headed for Pristina. The police stopped the
soldiers' parents claiming further progress was unsafe. The
parents were spoken to by a Yugoslav Army representative, and the
Yugoslav Minister for Youth and Sports Zoran Andjelkovic, who
accused them of "lack of patriotism".
