VUKOVAR, June 24 (Hina) - Exhumations at the New Cemetery in
Vukovar, eastern Croatia, will end this Friday, June 26. The last
burial of exhumed and identified bodies will take place the day
after.
Exhumations of victims of the Serbian aggression on Croatia will
resume in August, when exhumations will begin at a mass grave near
Vukovar's City Stadium, the chairman of the Croatian Government's
Commission for Detained and Missing Persons Ivan Grujic told Hina
on Wednesday.
The bodies of unidentified people will be taken to the Forensics
Institute in Zagreb for further identification, he said.
The remains of 22 adults and one child were exhumed at the New
Cemetery in Vukovar today. Family members identified the remains of
14 people aged between 24 and 98, including nine men.
A total of 895 victims of Serbian aggression have been exhumed from
the New Cemetery since April 28, and 552 were identified.
According to Commission data, the 521 persons identified by June 19
included 439 Croats, 30 Serbs, 24 Ruthenians, 12 Hungarians, seven
Ukrainians, four Muslims, and one member each of Romanian, Slovak,
Polish and German nationality. The nationality of one person
remains unknown.
Of 521 identified persons, 266 were Croatian defenders, 207
civilians and 48 civil defence members.
According to Grujic, 125 were on the list of detained and missing
persons.
