SARAJEVO, June 2 (Hina) - UN spokesman in Sarajevo Aleksandar
Ivanko said Tuesday that police in parts of Bosnia-Herzegovina
under Croat control and Croatian border police do not respect the
decision of the International High Representative that vehicles
without unified Bosnian registration plates should be forbidden to
cross the Bosnia-Herzegovina border as of June 1.
Ivanko told reporters that international police have been deployed
on border crossings between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. They
noticed that police from both sides of the border allow vehicles
with Herzeg-Bosnian registration plates to cross the border.
He announced that the UN Mission would forward a complaint to the
Executive Committee of the Council for the Implementation of the
Peace Agreement.
Ivanko also said that the International Police Task Force (IPTF)
received information that in Bosnian Federation municipalities
with Croat majority new registration plates were being issued at a
price of DM50 instead of the earlier agreed price of DM15.
Also, local police stations continue issuing invalid drivers'
permits which look different from what has been decided on by the
Office of the international High Representative.
According to IPTF information, 713,000 vehicles have been
registered in Bosnia-Herzegovina and about 200,000 pairs of
unified registration plates have been issued.
