SARAJEVO, May 19 (Hina) - UN spokesman in Sarajevo Aleksander
Ivanko on Tuesday announced that the replacement of registration
plates in Bosnia-Herzegovina is progressing well.
In the majority of the country there are long queues all day long in
front of police stations, which says much about the interest of
Bosnia-Herzegovina citizens to make the replacement as soon as
possible, said Ivanko at a Sarajevo press conference.
Ivanko also said that police stations in parts of BH under majority
Croat control still have not started giving out the plates.
Ivanko reminded Bosnian Croat authorities in the Federation that
the Council of Ministers and the governments of both entities in
Bosnia-Herzegovina signed an agreement on this back in January and
that vehicles without new plates and traffic permits would not be
able to cross the BH border following 1 June.
He confirmed that an agreement with the governments of Austria,
Germany and Italy has already been reached on banning vehicles
which do not have uniform registration plates as of the start of
next month to enter these countries.
He said that the sole aim of introducing uniform automobile
insignia was to secure full freedom of movement for all BH citizens,
and every attempt by authorities in that country, on any level, to
deny that freedom will be considered as violation of the Dayton
agreement.
