HERZEGOVINA-NERETVA CANTON GOVT ON DRIVERS' LICENCES

( Editorial: --> 4787 ) MOSTAR, May 18 (Hina) - The government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton at Monday's session accepted the safety plan for the return of displaced persons to that canton. The plan was worked out by the cantonal interior minister Valentin Coric, his deputy Sefkija Dziho and representatives of the International Police Task Force (IPTF). Croat and Bosniak members of the Canton government today did not agree on the future design of personal documents, especially drivers' licences in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton. The office of the High Representative in Sarajevo proposed that the Latin and Cyrillic scripts be used on drivers' licences in the whole of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which was supported by the Bosniak members of the canton government but rejected by the Croats. The Croats described the proposal as a violation of the BH Federation and canton constitutions, which designate Latin as the official script, and official languages as Croatian and Bosnian. The debate on personal documents and drivers' licences in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton was agreed to be continued at the 21 May session. (hina) lm mrb 181905 MET may 98
