BUDAPEST, April 28 (Hina) - Croatia has adopted a programme for a
faster development of internal waterways and by the end of the year
it will make the Sava, the Drava and the Danube rivers navigable,
said Croatian Maritime and Transport Minister Zeljko Luzavec at a
meeting of a Danube commission in Budapest.
Luzavec said Croatia would soon launch one of its most ambitious
transport projects, i.e. a canal between the rivers Danube and
Sava, which will reduce its waterway to Europe by 417 kilometres.
Croatia is about to become an official member of the Danube
Commission, a regional organisation of Danubian countries.
The meeting marked the 50th anniversary of the Convention on the
Danube River Navigation Regime.
Delegations from 11 Danubian countries partcipated in the one-day
meeting.
