MEMORANDUM ON JOINT POSTAL SERVICE SIGNED IN SARAJEVO

( Editorial: --> 8714 ) SARAJEVO, April 22 (Hina) - The transport and communications ministers of the Croat-Muslim Federation and the Bosnian Serb entity met in Sarajevo on Wednesday to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which opens the way to establishing a joint postal service on the whole territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The joint postal service in Bosnia stopped operating in 1992. The Memorandum was also signed by Deputy High Representative Jacques Klein, who acted as a witness. The postal service will start operating in the next several days, Klein told reporters after the signing. The unobstructed exchange of mail will contribute to a speedier economic recovery of the country as well, Klein said. According to the Memorandum, the existing postal operators in Bosnia-Herzegovina, including a postal centre in Mostar, will deliver mail to recipients in the other entity three times a week. There will be no check-ups on the inter-entity border line nor will vehicles be exchanged. (hina) rm /mb 221756 MET apr 98
