MOSTAR, March 28 (Hina) - The Centre for the Advancement of Human
Rights and Democracy (CUPIDO) was established in the southern
Bosnia-Herzegovina city of Mostar on Saturday.
Milivoj Gagro was unanimously elected as the centre's president
while Dzemal Sunje became the centre's secretary.
The programme principles stress the centre is an independent, non-
government and non-profit association of citizens whose aim is the
promotion of human rights and democratic freedoms in the
Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
An important activity of the centre will be media promotion of
values of modern society, it was said at the founding assembly.
Helsinki Committee for Bosnia-Herzegovina president Srdjan
Dizdarevic told the gathering that CUPIDO would bring stronger
ideas of civil society to the Mostar area.
Participants in the founding assembly unanimously agreed that the
centre be included in the work of an alternative citizens'
parliament in which 14 non-government associations from the whole
of Bosnia are active.
