ZAGREB, Mar 14 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee for human
Rights (HHO) Saturday assessed a decision of the Croatian
government's which bans public gatherings in the Danube river
region until 1 August 1998 as against the law and the constitution.
The HHO believes the decision poses a permanent restriction on the
citizens' human rights, and that it is contrary to the law which
authorises the police to ban public gatherings only when they might
imperil public peace and order.
The decision was reached on 12 March 1998.
