SARAJEVO, Feb 12 (Hina) - The command of the International Police
Task Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina will demand that the interior
minister of the Una-Sana Canton, Edhem Veladzic, be held
responsible for statements in which he expressed his loyalty to the
ruling Party of Democratic Action (SDA).
According to Aleksandar Ivanko, the UN spokesman in Sarajevo,
Veladzic Tuesday told radio and television in Bihac, a town in
north-western Bosnia, that "the police was created by the ruling
party (which) issues commands which the police carry out."
Veladzic probably got his education at some institute specialising
in Marxism-Leninism in Moscow, Ivanko told reporters Thursday.
From the UN's point of view, such statements are utterly
unacceptable, Ivanko said, adding one could imagine how much trust
Bihac residents who were not members of the SDA had in local
police.
IPTF commissioner Manfred Sietner will immediately demand Croat-
Muslim (federal) authorities that Veladzic be held responsible,
the UN spokesman said, adding a request for his replacement was also
possible.
